maybe there is life elsewhere in our universe.

they are simply content in their lives and world, perhaps even grateful,

and don’t think an excursion to Almighty Earth

would make for a pleasant escape

 

you know, given the ways of humans

and how we spend our days.

4-year-old: mama, you like to cook?

of course, baby. why?

and laundry, too?

[a chuckle] not so much but there are worse things to have to do

and taking care of me?

oh, that’s my favorite. why are you asking?

i want to be a doctor when i get big

that’s my baby, always dream big. i wanted to be a doctor, too

[an excited smile] really?! was it daddy’s dream for you to play house forever?

 

 

dreams change,

just don’t let them die

… a matter of time

pinhole in a plastic cup

subtle

unnoticed

until lost hopes pool at its base

and the solid surface gets murky

contents drained

gutted

an instance at a time

but no one notices

until it’s all bled out

and the imbalance

weighs heavy on the framework
